ANTI VIRUS SERVICESNowadays it is necessary to secure and protect your data from virus threats
and such. There are basic solutions available and more complex solutions
depending Viruses and Trojans replicate themselves. To trigger an infection a user must click on a file that it has attached itself to. These malicious programs replicate to other systems making it hard to remove. Most viruses spread by tricking the user into running a program, most commenly sent via email attachment. Because of their complex nature they morph very quickly into more virulent and better hidden forms. As a result companies are required to protect all parts of the network infrastructure, in a coordinated approach to the network servers, desktops and gateway including email and web server. These threats come from Viruses, Trojans and worms such as the infamous Code Red & Nimda. It takes a comprehensive approach and knowledge of best practices and experienced staff such as Convergent Technologies to combat these threats. Trojans are named after the mythical Trojan Horse. They appear to be a useful piece of software but carry a dangerous payload that executes on the target computer with all privileges of the user. A Trojan does not reproduce on its own, so it does not spread without assistance. Like a virus, it relies on fooling the user into running it as trusted software. Worms were the fastest growing form of threat. A worm is a software program that propagates itself across a network. Unlike viruses or Trojans it executes on a system without human intervention and typically attempts to find other potentially vulnerable systems. It enters systems by exploiting bugs in systems and/or overlooked features in software. Worms exist purely in memory, avoiding the file system and making themselves invisible to Anti-Virus software. The increasing number of remote and mobile workers adds a new dimension to the possible sources of infection. Corporate networks no longer have a single point of entry, so untrusted/authorised access/modems/web servers/email gateways/improperly configured VPNs (virtual private networks), unsecured wireless connections etc are all possible entry points. Anti-Virus – the focus has been in detecting and stopping virus’s via. Email at either the server or the desktop. Other avenues of infection include P2P systems which anti-virus systems only partially address. Typically at the email level the cleanup involves removing the infected email attachments. With Trojans this includes installing backdoors, applying new vulnerabilities, and modifying infected systems. Anti-Virus solutions on there own lack the ability to patch and protect against these types of damage. Firewalls determine whether to allow or block network traffic by looking at TCP/IP packet headers. They don’t normally for example examine the data within any given network packet. Therefore firewalls in general do not have the capability to recognize malicious code, nor any means to prevent its transfer to infect a target. We employ the use of vulnerability assessment technology to identify potential security loop holes. However, this process is time-intensive and involves a fair amount of technical expertise but is nessesary to secure systems from possible infection. Anti-virus software/firewalls and intrusion detection systems are all part of our security tool kit. The security measures include vulnerability scanners, best practices to secure servers & workstations by disabling potentially vulnerable services/applications. Whatever your requirements Convergent Technologies are the solution to
maintain a secure infrastructure to minimize the risks and ensure you
data and systems are safe & secure. |
